My
chief end is to glorify the great I AM, to do justly, and to love mercy,
and to walk humbly in all His ways, to obey His commands, to hold fast
to Him and to serve Him with all my heart and all my soul. Doing nothing
out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others
better than myself. Looking not only to my own interests, but also to the
interests of others. So in everything, doing to others what I would have
them do to me, knowing the love of Christ, which passes all  knowledge,
that I might be filled with all the fulness of God that is able to do exceeding
abundantly above all that I ask or think, according to the power that worketh
in me,  unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout
all ages, world without end.©

I told you she was Hot!

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Time for me to brag on my smoking hot wife again!  Apart from being stunningly gorgeous, she is a woman that follows hard after Jesus.  Let the boasting and swagger begin.  She works as an oncology nurse here in Greensboro.  On her floor she is known by many esteemed titles, but the greatest is Josh's wife....haha.  Her most esteemed title is that of a Christian.  She is often asked to pray for situations by co-workers and turned to for support.  She sets a standard by the way she lives out her faith on her floor.  On Friday they had some big shindig and no one to open in prayer.  Guess who they asked to open up the meeting in prayer?  That's right, my baby!  Most of the time it is opened with a prayer that is read from a script that is meant to be non offensive and pretty neutral.  The kind of prayer that leaves you guessing who they were praying to.  More of a group of wishes and positives thoughts than a heart felt conversation with a living Savior that is capable of answering each request.  My wife told them that she would say the prayer, but she would not compromise the way she prayed.  They handed her some scripts and she looked them over, but when it came time to pray she left the scripts behind and let it rip.  I am so proud of her!!!  She was told by some of the people that attended that deal that her prayer made them cry.  One of the sweetest prayers they had ever heard.  The speaker even referred to her prayer several times while she was talking.

When we live out our relationship with Jesus in front of people they take notice.  This is not about being a pastor and a pastor's wife, this is about following Jesus.  I'll say it again, I am proud of my wife for taking a stand and not backing down from what she knows is right.  As a result people were able to see Jesus.

The 2008 Nursing Board Exam Results

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

All or nothing, or both.

I've been away for a long while, and it was obvious why for I've blabbed about it for quite some time: you know all the fuss about the out-house reviews I dabbled with a couple of months ago. No, no, it didn't took a toll on me, I couldn't even say I was really serious about it. But what happened, happened. You might have heard of it on the news or read it on the papers: some 1,067 nursing graduates fell victim to a review center mess thus won't be able to take the up and coming 2008 June Nursing Licensure Board Examinations.

And I am fucking 1 out of that figure, 1,067.

It didn't take long for the truth to sink in between my system, but somehow it stirred some strong emotions inside me. It was interesting, at one point, I was burning a hole in my cute ass, spending eight or so hours per day trying and failing to stuff my head with four years worth of how-to's then all of a sudden, it boiled down to the fact that it was kind of useless. Well, not really useless in the long run, but at present it proved to be a waste of time. And I hated it when others waste my time. I've long decided that I am the only person licensed to waste my time. Funny how I used the word licensed. Jesus Christ. It was all wrong from the beginning. It was a pile of dung, me praying that I'd pass the licensure exams when all the while I should've been praying for at least a chance to take it. Sheesh! Are you kidding me?!

I'm not sure if it was a blessing or a curse however. Of course, I'd be crazy to say I am so ready for the board exams. I mean, nobody would claim that prior to taking, so I guess the delay would buy me more time to cram - if I'd have the itch to review at least in time for November; but at the same time, it's disgusting knowing that sure, I didn't fail but what the hell, I didn't even get to try!

But I'm not about to extend the damage done to me by this circumstance by being a rotten tomato for five or six months, nor would I exacerbate the 50,000 neuron destruction per day occurring on my head by constantly over analyzing what the fuck happened. No matter how uncharacteristic of me, I guess the best and most logical thing to do is face this situation as real as possible without any regret, that would lead me nowhere for sure. Though what happened is disgustingly irritating, I would accept this as a challenge to do better in the second season and as a test of faith. In the middle of an unbelievable quarter life crisis, all of the impossible things happening to me, I leave to the Absolute to make possible, that in the long run things would turn out as necessary evils and it'll be better - no, great for me in the end. Now that's inspiring.

But I guess, for a moment, it won't be too much if I wallow in some hate that I brewed inside me.

So what the hell, I was fucking victimized!

And for once, I horribly hated it that it wasn't my fault!

Cesarean Rates And Epidurals Reduced By Doula Support During Labor

Saturday, May 31st, 2008
During labor, the continued presence of a doula - an experienced non-medical female companion who provides continuous labor support - has significant beneficial effects for middle- and upper-class women in childbirth, even when they have their male partner or other family member with them, according to a new study in the journal Birth.

Stimulating

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

So, the other day, I received my economic stimulus check from the government. What better way to stimulate the economy than to go to the art supply store! So, I went and visited Michael's. I had absolutely no intention of buying any more beading supplies because I just have so much, but I wanted to take a gander at what they had. Immediately, a woman (whose name I did not get) asked me if I ever made jewelry. Ha, did I ever. She proceeded to ask me if she needed to buy a book to make a simple bracelet. I, of course, said no. Well, let me tell you, she had me hooked for about 45 minutes explaining to her what she had to do, what tools she needed, how she should go about this, that, and the other! She was a very nice woman, but I should have pretended not to speak English or something. Naturally, after being in the beading section for so long, I ended buying a thing... or twelve. At that point, I forgot what I wanted and I bought yarn, paint, and paintbrushes. I went for the children's paintbrushes, identical to the adult ones (but with grips) and they were $3.00 cheaper! (and were in cute colors) So excited...

Then, I proceeded to the bookstore, this time with nothing in mind. I ended up buying this cool chakra crystal set.  This totally intrigued me because I had enrolled in a holistic and alternative therapy nursing course and wanted to learn more (I dropped the class after a few weeks because I was lazy and backed up with other non-elective courses, but hope to take it again). When I saw the set, I knew I had to get it, it was only $9.95, can't go wrong. Now, if you don't know anything about chakras, I'll give a bit of a rundown on what I know about it (which is very little, I promise). Basically, chakras (which is a Sanskrit word for "wheel", or "spinning wheel") describe the 7 main energy centers within our body. They lie vertically from the top of your head to the base of your pelvis and there is some sort of energy associated with each. Well, apparently there are these different types of crystals each with their own different types of vibration/energy that work with these chakras. I believe there is some meditation involved.

I have so much going on, hopefully I will get to these soon.

Here's an interesting link. Being that I am studying nursing and into art, I thought it was interesting when I came across these really cool business card holders. I believe you can mix and match professions, hobbies, and colors. Neat concept.

Weekly confession: Yes, my boobs are rather battered.

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Come on in. Sit down.

Make yourself at home. It's time for weekly confession at Boondock Ramblings.

My confession: I didn’t expect to be nursing an 18-month old, but I am. And my boobs are paying for it.

At this point, some who normally read my blog may want to log off. I’m about to talk about breasts – and not in a good way.

My boobs are dried up husks, pathetic specimens of womanhood.

They have been pulled on, dragged across rooms, and squeezed until there is barely any flesh left to squeeze.

I am nursing a toddler.

Holy crap. How did I get to this point? How did I become one of those moms? One of those moms who nurses a toddler and thinks it is normal?

But yet, I’m not all the way there yet. I do not carry cloth diapers in my homemade, knitted diaper bag while carrying a nine-month old on my hip with my hand sown sling and holding the hand of a 2-year old while shuffling along in my sandals to the organic farmer’s market. I do not scowl at women purchasing formula or shake my fingers at the mother shoving a pacifier in her screaming child’s mouth.

No, in fact, I stuff my non-biodegradable Luvs diapers in a plastic, Made In China backpack with Spiderman on the outside, leading only one child by his hand to the supermarket where we buy maybe one or two organic items and several boxed ones that may or may not have too much sugar and way too much fat in it.

I do ascribe to Dr. Sear’s Attachment Parenting philosophy, the one that suggests child-led weaning is healthy and beneficial to a child. I do not believe co-sleeping is evil. In fact I practice it. I don’t feel awkward when a woman breast feeds her child in front of me.

I do, however, feel awkward when said woman whips out her boob for all to see. Discreetly is preferred, even though I feel breast feeding is completely natural.

So, here I am. Nursing a toddler. A toddler who sometimes shoves his hand down my shirt in public and squeezes a boob or tugs on a nipple. A toddler who sometimes lifts my shirt and nuzzles my chest and has started giggling and pointing if I agree to allow him to nurse. A toddler who this week exclaimed "Ah!" when I disrobed the boob to let him nurse and then pointed at a nipple and inquired, "Boobie?"

Craaaap. I gotta wean. And soooon!

Do I plan to wean? Absolutely. Am I going to be pressured to do so before my son is emotionally ready? Nope. Do I plan to breastfeed for as long or co-sleep if Hubby and I have another child? Absolutely not. That kid is sleeping in his or her own bed and will like it. He or she is drinking from a bottle and will like it. He or she will eat like a normal child and ...yep, like it.

It isn’t as if I planned it this way – to be one of those “extended breastfeeding” women.

My almost 19-month old has suffered through acid reflux and ear infections and because of those illnesses it just never seemed the right time to start the weaning process. It seemed too traumatic a process to begin when my child was so miserable and clingy and ill. So, I didn’t start the process and I haven’t – fully, anyhow. I have on a limited basis.

But I know I have to. I don’t want to be nursing a five-year old as my brother is sure I will be. The mere thought makes me queasy and light-headed, in fact.

There you have it. My confession for the week. That I am a extended breast feeding mama who plans to begin the weaning process and is simply a bit freaked out about it all.

So, how’s your week going?
